There are over 100,000 Orphans in Ukraine

Two Thirds of the cost for the new orphanage has been raised.  The new orphanage is now open with it's first children as of January 2012!

Begun shortly after the fall of communism, Pastor Wilbur Atwood and later John Warren and his family presented the gospel to a people who had been shut in spiritually by their government. New freedoms also brought new addictions. Tobacco companies regularly gave out "free" products to an unsuspecting public. Alcoholism is a major problem as is Aids. The family unit takes a major hit with these social problems all combined. There is an orphanage or sometimes several in most every town large and small. Peter and Peggy Schauffler continued the earlier work begun by traveling to Ukraine with American youth to present healthful living programs. Support has also been given to Bible workers and several churches in southern Ukraine. Anatoliy Gurduiala is heading up an orphanage building project in Nikolaev, Ukraine. This orphanage will teach the children a livable skill and more importantly that they can be adopted into the family of God. The problem with typical orphanages in Ukraine is that at 18 years of age, the youth are given all their earthly belongings and put out on the street. With no skills to support themselves and nowhere to call home, many of these youth are exploited in prostitution hells and the cycle continues.

The work in Ukraine is a 3 phase project.

#1. This group continues the health and spiritual outreach and consist of young people witnessing to young people in Ukraine. We go into the towns & orphanages with the Love of Jesus. This program is ongoing each year that we have the funds available. Each year the program has a different theme but the focus is the same “ Jesus’ Love”  for the children of Ukraine. We generally stay about one month and cover three towns and several orphanages. We also do humanitarian work in the community and in the orphanages. We give away hundreds of Bibles each year plus many other Bible related children’s books and Spirit of Prophecy books. When we leave we leave all our materials so they can continue the work. Please email pschauffler@ne.rr.com for a DVD on our entire program.

#2. The second phase of this project is to build an orphanage in Ukraine where the children will learn life skills. Presently orphans live and go to school at the orphanage. When they graduate they are put out with no where to go. It is not that Ukraine does not care about these orphans for they do. The problem is that when Communism fell those in control not only left with all the money from the government they cleaned out the personal checking accounts of all the private citizens as well. People could not even take care of themselves let alone all the homeless children. The government is working hard to just take care of the new government and just keep as many babies off the street as they can. If we, the citizens of other countries step in we can help where there is no help now. The orphanage we are building will take very small children still on the streets. We have raised the money for the first floor. The summer of 2010 Anatoliy will began the second floor. For further information on this please see link to Nickolaev Orphanage Project.

#3 The third phase is to began to network business in Ukraine, USA and maybe other countries that will help to take in high school age orphans and train them with a life skill so that they can then find gainful employment in Ukraine. This mentoring project has just begun with a letter to President Yanukovych. We covet your prayers.

There is a great need to train these young people to be productive and contributing members to society. The goal is to start with the orphanage in Nikolaev as a small beginning to save the futures of at least some of these children. Plans may include training with work skills here in the US. We covet your prayers and support for the building project and the yearly mission programs.

To donate to this mission:

Many orphans live on the streets.

Many live in basements, heating mains
and the sewer systems.

We want to help these people.
